Journey with “Phase 9” – A Personal Reflection

2021 was a year of growth and discovery for me. My album “Phase 9,” released in May 2021, represents a significant milestone in my musical journey. I’ll share my personal perspective on creating this work and what it means to me.

The Vision Behind “Phase 9”

The concept for “Phase 9” emerged during a period of reflection and experimentation in my creative process. The title itself symbolizes transformation and evolution, representing my ninth phase as a developing artist. Each track on the album tells a story of personal growth, musical exploration, and the challenges of maintaining authenticity in a digital world.

Creating During a Pandemic

Like many artists in 2021, I faced unique challenges due to the ongoing pandemic. Despite these obstacles, I found that the isolation of the pandemic provided a unique opportunity for deep creative focus. The album became a sanctuary, a space where I could process the world around me and connect with listeners through music when physical connection was limited.

Musical Style and Influences

“Phase 9” blends electronic elements with experimental soundscapes, reflecting my interest in pushing boundaries while maintaining emotional resonance. I drew inspiration from both contemporary digital music trends and classic production techniques. The album features tracks like “Puppet Music BOX” and “Anticitizen Zero ,” which showcase my approach to merging catchy melodies with games voices.

The Digital Music Landscape in 2021

Releasing an album in 2021 meant engaging with a music industry increasingly defined by digital platforms. Streaming services continued to dominate how people consume music, accounting for over half of the music industry’s revenue globally . While this democratized access to music, it also created new challenges for artists to stand out in a saturated market.

I chose to release “Phase 9” through DistroKid to multiple digital channels, recognizing that streaming would be the primary way most listeners would experience the album. However, I also maintained the importance of the album as a cohesive artistic statement rather than just a collection of singles.

Connecting with Listeners

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, I found meaningful ways to connect with my audience. Virtual listening parties and online discussions allowed me to share the album directly with fans and receive immediate feedback. These interactions reinforced my belief in the power of music to create community even in difficult times.

I created “Baby Alien Sleeping Song” in 2021 as a playful yet thoughtful experiment blending soothing melodies with my signature electronic style. This track represents my attempt to merge the calming qualities of a traditional lullaby with futuristic sound design elements.

Robo Love – I’ve always been fascinated by the intersection of technology and human emotion. “Robo Love” represents one of my experimental works where I explored how mechanical sounds can convey feelings of connection and intimacy. The track combines glitchy beats with melodic synths to create a soundscape that feels both futuristic and emotionally resonant.

Pripyat Sound: Musical Reflection on Abandonment and Nature’s Resilience

“Pripyat Sound” represents one of my more conceptual works. Inspired by the abandoned city of Pripyat near Chernobyl, this track explores the eerie beauty of places left to time and nature. I wanted to capture the haunting silence broken only by the persistent sounds of nature reclaiming what was once human territory.

KJC Uber Alles: Take on Futuristic Bass

“KJC Uber Alles” represents my exploration into futuristic bass music and how it can create intense, immersive experiences. This track was an experiment in combining heavy basslines with intricate percussion patterns, designed to energize dancefloors while maintaining a unique artistic identity. I wanted to create something that felt both powerful and innovative, drawing inspiration from the evolving electronic music scene while adding my own signature touches.

Zattta Is Here: Exploration of Ambient Electronica

Constantly pushing the boundaries of sound, “Zattta Is Here” represents one of my more atmospheric and experimental works. This track was born from a late-night studio session where I wanted to create something that felt both mysterious and immersive. The title itself plays with the idea of an unseen presence or energy entering the soundscape.

The composition combines subtle field recordings with synthesized textures to create a sense of movement and transformation. I experimented with granular synthesis and processed vocals to add layers of depth and intrigue. My goal was to create a piece that feels like it’s constantly evolving, inviting listeners to discover new elements with each listen.

For me, this track captures the essence of electronic music’s ability to transport listeners to different emotional landscapes. It’s one of those projects that reminded me why I fell in love with production in the first place—the freedom to create worlds that exist purely in sound.
